Recruitment Shard Probability Calculator
Calculate gacha pull odds, expected costs, and RNG outcomes
Total unique shards available in the current recruitment pool
Number of specific shards you want to pull
Number of recruitment pulls you plan to make
Number of pulls after which target shard rate increases (common in gacha games)
Rate multiplier applied after pity threshold is reached
Select the type of recruitment banner active
Quick Tips
- Most gacha games have base rates between 0.5% and 3% for 5-star shards
- Pity systems vary by game: some reset after a pull, others carry over banners
- Rate up banners only affect specific target shards, not the full pool
How to Use This Tool
Enter the total number of unique shards in the current recruitment pool, then specify how many copies of your target shard you want to pull. Input the number of pulls you plan to make, then adjust optional pity settings if your game uses a pity system. Select the active banner type to apply rate up multipliers, then click Calculate Probability to see your odds breakdown.
Use the Reset button to clear all fields and start a new calculation. Results include single pull odds, cumulative probability for your planned pulls, expected pull counts, and a visual progress bar for your success chance.
Formula and Logic
Single pull probability is calculated as (Target Shard Count / Total Pool Shards) * Banner Multiplier, capped at 100%. For cumulative probability over multiple pulls, we use the independent probability formula: 1 - (1 - Single Pull Probability) ^ Number of Pulls, adjusted for pity systems if enabled.
Expected pulls to target follow the geometric distribution: 1 / Single Pull Probability, representing the average number of pulls needed for one success. The 50% and 90% chance pull counts are derived by solving for n in the cumulative probability formula where the result equals 0.5 or 0.9 respectively.
Pity adjustments apply a rate multiplier to all pulls after the specified pity threshold, increasing your odds for later pulls. All calculations assume independent pulls with replacement, which matches most gacha and loot-based game mechanics.
Practical Notes
Gaming-specific tips for using this calculator:
- Most modern gacha games have base 5-star shard rates between 0.6% and 3%, with rate up banners boosting target shards by 1.5x to 2x.
- Pity systems vary widely: some games reset pity after a successful pull, others carry over between banners, and some use soft pity (gradual rate increases) instead of hard thresholds.
- Recruitment pools often rotate every 2-4 weeks, so always verify current pool total and rate up status before calculating.
- Some games use weighted pools where certain shards have higher base rates than others, which this calculator does not account for by default.
Why This Tool Is Useful
Gamers can use this tool to plan in-game currency spending, avoiding overspending on pulls that have low success odds. Streamers and content creators can use it to explain pull odds to their audience, building transparency around gacha mechanics.
Game designers can use the calculator to balance recruitment systems, testing how changes to pool size, rate up multipliers, or pity thresholds affect player pull probabilities. Competitive players can assess whether saving resources for a future banner is more efficient than pulling on the current pool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this calculator account for duplicate shards?
Yes, the Target Shard Count field lets you specify how many copies of a shard you want, including duplicates. If your game converts duplicate shards to currency, you can adjust your target count to match your needs.
What if my game uses soft pity instead of a hard threshold?
Soft pity systems gradually increase pull rates starting at a certain pull count, rather than jumping to a fixed multiplier. For a rough estimate, use the hard pity threshold set to the first pull where rate increases, and set the pity rate to the average multiplier across the soft pity range.
Can I use this for non-gacha games like loot-based RPGs?
Yes, the calculator works for any game with random loot drops from a fixed pool. Adjust the total shards to match total loot items in the pool, and target shards to the specific item you want to farm.
Additional Guidance
Always check your game's official patch notes for the most up-to-date recruitment rates, as developers often adjust odds without notice. If your game has a spark system (guaranteed shard after a set number of pulls), you can model this by setting the pity threshold to the spark count and pity rate to 100x (guaranteed success).
For games with rotating pools, save your calculations per banner to track odds across multiple recruitment cycles. Remember that all gacha calculations are based on probability, so individual results may vary widely from expected values due to RNG.
